There is no doubt that Le Carre is a main player in contemporary fiction and his work is always well crafted, however I have to say I was slightly disappointed with the Mission Song. I found it difficult to `believe' in Salvo as a character and in places it was a tad predictable. Those who may have been drawn to African connection in this book should check out `Cry of the Justice Bird' by Jon Haylett, which certainly does not disappoint. This relative new comer is certainly one to watch and may soon rival the likes of the great Le Carre.
