Lords of the Bow - Conn Iggulden
Conn Iggulden taught English for seven years before becoming a full-time writer, who now has among a number of extremely successful books, the Emperor series. A series that charts the life and time of Julius Caesar. He is married with a son and lives in Hertfordshire, England. Conn Iggulden has the ability to do what all authors' strive for, but not all achieve and that is to keep the reader interested. His ability to recreate the smells and sounds of ancient times are extraordinary. Battle scenes and even small skirmishes are dealt with in detail and all of these things together help the reader to almost feel as though they have been drawn back in time and are part of the events as the story unfolds. This books follows on from the Wolf of the Plains and charts the life of Genghis Khan, as he strives to bring the Mongol tribes together into one unit. In comparison to Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar little has been written about Gengis Khan, but he was one of the most feared and also respected men of his time. A man who had the vision to join together the small tribes of the Mongols, not only making them into a prosperous nation, but also a fearsome fighting unit, whose tactics were almost impossible to fight against. If the British tribes had united in the same way, perhaps the Romans may never have gained a foothold England.
