If You Could See Me Now - Cecelia Ahern
Like `A Place Called Here', Cecilia Aherne takes a lost women and follows her journey of reconnection with a dose of `magic' thrown in. Somehow she never loses the reader; we even find ourselves caring about what happens to an imaginary friend.
Some may prefer the down to earth, true to life 'P.S. I Love You', and might find this book difficult to connect with properly, but in that case you're half proving the point of the story - that we can get so stuck in the mundane reality of everyday life, we don't allow ourselves to let go sometimes.
The secret to Aherne's success is her ability to weave in inventive, out-of-the-ordinary scenarios, that at the heart of them hold moving and affecting issues we all struggle with. Not to mention her easygoing style of writing and pin sharp observation of human interaction.
I particulary like the author's use of visual imagery in her writing, and that her (often flawed) heroines are as far from the typical big city PR girl types as you can get.
