Best Man - Matt Dunn
For a relatively new author (he has at present only written 2 other books one of which is not published till oct 2007) Matt Dunn has good use of subject matter and prose.
This centres on 2 childhood friends and business partners life. One of which is a serial womaniser and the other his slightly less handsome, more portly friend. The friend has just met a very attractive (outwardly) but ultimately shallow girl and is relentlessly marching towards the aisle much to the dismay of his friend the womaniser.
He can see what no-one else can (even their other firnds and the friends parents) - the woman is a shallow gold digger. The book follows the story of his subtle (and as the day of doom looms closer) less than subtle
attempts at breaking them up or at least letting his friend see what a mistake he's making. Also he himself becomes more involved with a woman who could turn out to be "the one" whilst ironically at the same time trying to prevent his friends attempt at happiness.
Personally speaking i have a friend who was in this position and he opted to heed my advise (and that of his sister) and is now a happily married man to a much nicer woman who is a successfull journalist as opposed to the dead end job, silver spoon fed, gold digger who used to live with him. So a lot of the scenarios are familiar to me.
The other book he has written (The Ex-Boyfriend's Handbook) is just as funny.
Thoroughly recommended
