Da Gospel According to Ali G - "Ali G"
As with Monty Python's Brand New Bok, Ali G and his writing team use pornography to restrict sales of their volume purely to the target readership. Only these days, you have to push the limit further and further. Whereas the Pythons merely needed to subtitle their book 'Tits and Bums' to shock, Ali G has to show explicit, diagrammatic sex to achieve the same effect. However the convention remains that you cannot depict on the printed page everything that goes on in the schoolboy's mind.To my mind, this book is a classic in the same vein as a short line of other masterpieces written in youthful argot, namely: 'The Young Visiters' by Daisy Ashford The Molesworth books by Geoffrey WillansThe entire script of the Ali G book is written in his appalling spelling, which adds to the teenage aura of the work. Actually I would recommend to the publishers that they produce a version consisting of just the text -- i.e. exclude all the smutty pictures -- in order for this great work to reach a wider audience.
