Ben Elton knows how to spell Zeitgeist, and scare you with it. Not scare you in a schlock horror, many ways to kill you messily way, but scare you in a subtle, oh god I can see this happening around me and its all insane, way. This is 1984 for the blogging, myspace, Jeremy Kyle generation sharing their hideously banal lives with the world. Its happening all around you and satire that resonates this much probably isn't satire anymore, its too close to the truth. Global warming may hurt the planet but something so much more insidious will kill its soul. Read this book, laugh at it, then go and watch tv or make a phone call to a hairdresser or speak to a teenager and be very, very scared.
