'The White Tiger'

The White Tiger - Aravind Adiga
This is a book which starts with a lot of promise but loses steam after 2/3 of the distance. It is written in an easy style but not paced very well.Too much of relaxed approach in the beginning and then a sudden rush to end the story resulting in the rushed, cryptic, sudden changes that leaves you a bit disappointed and weary.
I also felt it struggles as a socio-political commentary on modern India. It is too simplistic and ends up as pretender, rather than an authority,on the topic.
Some of the characters follow the cliche (Ashoks'wife, the all knowing driverwallah).Charecterisation is not a strong point of this book.
Ultimately, this is a book which is not going to set the critiques raving but there is enough to tempt you to buy this author's next book.
