I've only just started reading this, Ms Kirino's latest novel, and I can say that so far it's up to the standard of her "Out". I won't go into the plot, but I will say that the translator needs shot! He has managed to turn Japanese schoolgirls into Californians of the Bill and Ted ilk... I mean, 'dude'?! Gimme a break! This is something I find annoying about a lot of translated Japanese novels - they are done from an American West Coast sensibility. To be honest I think the UK market needs it's own translation and publishing house for foreign language novels. That aside I am enjoying it. So far 4 stars - dropping one because of the Americanisms. Finally, my copy actually looks unfinished... the pages have rough-cut edges!
